Know Your Termites

We will diagnose which type are present in your home when our specialists visit your home.

The most common types that are located in and around Carlsbad are the following:

Formosan Termites

This type is known as the “super-soldier”. They are known to have a head that is rounded to the side and tapered on the front. They also have wings with equal size. Their bodies are brownish or pale yellow. Most of the time, they are mistaken for flying ants.

Subterranean Termites

The said type lives in underground colonies. Subterranean termites build their tunnels or mud tubes. The purpose of this mud tube is to help them reach their food and to protect themselves from open air. To eat wood, they use their scissor-like jaw to chew their food. They are the most destructive of them all.

Drywood Termites

They have two types: the soldier and the reproduction. They are usually in pale brown and they are organized in a caste system. When their queen finds a suitable mate for her, a king, they will build their colony. Once the eggs hatch, the newly born will join the soldiers, who eats on wood and are responsible for the rest of the colony. When the colony grew old, some of them turns into reproduction and will begin to make a new colony.

How to Find Termites

They usually feed on wood. It’s the reason why most termites are present in the wooden materials in your houses especially your doors.

One traditional way to detect them is to smell their fecal matter. This method is similar to the detection method for many pests and rodents. Their fecal matter is usually in thin, small strips.

This fecal matter can also resemble sawdust. When they chew on wood, their excrement is wood which eventually creates a mound of pellet or sawdust.

If you notice this type of fecal matter in your property, particularly around wood, then you probably have a termite issue. People will also often realize that they have been infested from the tunnels that this pest build. These tunnels are mud tubes and when seen, you will notice that it is made of soil and wood combined.

Termite extermination isn’t something you’re going to want to try to do yourself. Some simple pest problems can be done by yourself at home, but this is not one of them. Contact one of our specialists as soon as possible to get rid of your problem! (760) 452-8596
